Character Outline
Kaede Hibari (雲雀 楓, Hibari Kaede) is voiced by Oguri Shun. He is the 10-year-old, official candidate to be the next Cloud Guardian of the
Vongola Famiglia (ボンゴレファミリー, Bongore Famirī), and will be assigned the duty to protect Sawada Nana. Kaede is a boy with calm demeanor and the silent tough type of a guy. His main weapons are a pair of tonfas and his Box Weapon,
Inuki. He is the youngest child and only son of
Dino Cavallone and
Hibari Kyouya, and, like Kei, had been trained about combats since early childhood. He is referred as "Prince of Namimori" (並盛の王子さま,
Namimori no Oujisama), due to his status as the son of Namimori's ruler. Although he shares his father's blood, he insists that he's a pureblooded Japanese like his mother.
Personality
Kaede is usually very quiet, and prefers not to engage in unnecessary conversations. Although he looks very cold and uncaring, he actually has soft and sensitive heart, and chooses to avoid contacts because he doesn't want to be hurt. Kei says that she's partly responsible for this. On some occassions, his friends can find him snap at everything but can calm down easily as well if someone closes to him comfort him and pats his head.
Plot Overview
Eleventh Generation Arc
Kaede appears since the very start of the arc, where he meets Nana and Shouno and avoids them because they are trying to pat his head. He doesn't appear until much later, where Nana goes to find him in order to ask him to be her Cloud Guardian. He refuses, because he doesn't like mingling with older kids and most of Nana's Guardians are female. However, because Nana doesn't want to give up and keeps pestering him, he eventually agrees after Nana promises him that she won't ask him to attend any 'crowding activities' with the Family.
His next appearance is when Nana calls him to give a quick briefings for her Guardians. However, Kei suddenly appears and when she spots Kaede among them, she immediately hugs Kaede, her little brother, until Nana noted that Kei suffocates him.
During a trial given from
Decima Generazione, together with Kei, he has to fight Dino and Hibari. They're almost beaten, but their resolutions to win allow them to open their box weapons. Kei's Sky Pegasus defeated Dino's
Sky Horse, while Kaede's Cloud Wolf defeated Hibari's
Cloud Hedgehog. After the trials end, he is seen eating snacks alone in Hibari's Residence with Inuki, the Cloud Wolf, eating a piece of beef jerky next to him, when Dino comes in and gives him a teddy bear. Kaede chases him away, and once Dino leaves, he smiles at the teddy that Dino gave him.
Childhood Arc: Kei Edition
Kaede appears as a cameo in the form of infant, during his birth and several times when Kei greets Hibari, who oftens seen cradling the baby Kaede after the episode of his birth.
Childhood Arc: Kaede Edition
This edition mostly shows how Kaede grows to be an independent boy and explains his hatred toward Dino. The first episode contains a flashback about Kei leaving Japan in order to study in Italy, so she can suceeds Dino. That incident causes great impact to Kaede, who loves and adores his older sister very much. After that, Hibari continues to support Kaede and tells him to be strong and brave. At one point, he is shown to befriend a wolf cub that he found in Hibari's Residence's backyard. He names him Inuki, because he barks like a dog. Eventually, their friendship is broken because as Inuki stays with Kaede, he is no longer recognizes as a wolf by his kinds. Hibari asks Kusakabe to move Inuki far away from Namimori, while telling Kaede not to be sad and he have to be independent. Since then, Kaede grows to be a mature child who refuses to be approached by others.
Childhood Arc: Lavina Edition
He appears only two times in this edition. Once when Lavina gave him a Valentine chocolate as a sign of friendship (she also gives the same chocolate to Hiko), and the second time when Kaede gives him a White Day present--a white teddy bear.
Relationships
Dino Cavallone and Hibari Kyouya
Kaede's biological parents. While Kaede refers to Hibari politely as "Hahaoya", he refuses to call Dino "Chichioya" and instead calls him "Haneuma". Like Kei, he doesn't bother with the fact that his mother is a male. Instead, he continues to respect him because he raises him since Dino left to Italy.
Rokudou Mukuro
Kaede respects Mukuro as a great illusionist, but he can't stands his eerie laughter. Also, to the boy, Mukuro looks like one of his favorite superheroes that used to be very popular when he was young--Pineappleman.
Gokudera Hayato and Miura Haru
Lavina's parents. Kaede respects Haru so much because Hibari said he used to ask Haru to take care of baby Kaede when he had to leave for a mission. On the contrary, he doesn't like talking to Gokudera because he's rather strict and he's a smoker. Also, while Haru allows Kaede to speak with Lavina, Gokudera opposes it due to his daughter complex, much to Kaede's dislike.
Abilities and Weapons
- Tonfas: The nicknamed Wolf Fangs. It's Kaede's first weapon and Hibari specially orders the weapon maker to fit his style. It has blades in order to slice people down, but Kaede rarely uses it.
- Inuki: A Box Weapon of propagation, shaped as a wolf cub with purple fur. Hibari requested Verde to make the wolf looks precisely like the real Inuki. Inuki can multiplies and charges at enemy at light speed. It can also grows as big as a house to chomp his enemies.

- His weakness is his head--touch it and you can tame him.
- He used to dislike his name, Kaede, which sounds girly in his opinion.
- He, like his mother, is fond of animals.
- He likes spicy foods, and is perfectly okay with I-Pin's gyoza buns.
- He is the youngest Guardian from the Eleventh Generation.
- Many people agrees that he is the exact copy of his mother.
- She resembles Dino during her childhood, but grows to be a female version of Hibari when she reaches teen age.
- He doesn't like crowds, not because he imitates Hibari, but because his childhood trauma.
- He likes reading, and often spends his time at home reading books while wearing kinagashi.
